Identification & Biology

Phytoplasma disease spread by a planthopper insect. Palms die within months. Fruit drops prematurely, fronds yellow from bottom up, spear leaf collapses.

Current Status

Spreading throughout Florida. Previously called 'lethal yellowing' (similar disease).

What Homeowners Should Do

Preventive antibiotic injection (oxytetracycline) every 3-4 months for high-value palms. Remove dead palms promptly. No cure once symptomatic.
