Multiple Ips bark beetle species that attack weakened conifers. Unlike mountain pine beetle, Ips can have multiple generations per year and attacks a broader range of species including spruce.

Endemic, worsening with drought.

What Homeowners Should Do

Keep conifers well-watered. Properly dispose of fresh-cut pine and spruce wood (don't leave slash piles). Preventive bark spray on high-value trees.
