Identification & Biology
Large beetle (2 inches) that bores into the crowns of coconut palms to feed on sap. Damages the growing point, reducing coconut production and potentially killing the palm. A serious threat to Hawaii's coconut palms and palm-based landscaping.
Current Status
Established on Oahu since 2013. Containment efforts ongoing.

What Homeowners Should Do
Report beetle sightings or V-shaped cuts in palm fronds to Hawaii DOA. Remove dead standing palms and stumps where beetles breed. Traps are available from the CRB response program.
